Avodart and Pregnancy

Can Avodart Be Used by My Partner While I Am Pregnant?

It appears that when Avodart is used by the male partner during pregnancy, no problems with the fetus will occur as a result of the medication. This is based on data that looked at doses up to 16 times the amount of Avodart found in semen. These studies were done in monkeys, a species that closely resembles humans when looking at fetal development. However, as discussed above, if your partner is using Avodart, it is extremely important that you not touch any broken or crushed Avodart capsules. Unbroken capsules are safe because they have a protective coating.

Recommendations for Using Avodart During Pregnancy

First of all, Avodart has not been approved for any use in women. Secondly, taking Avodart during pregnancy can cause birth defects. Therefore, if you are pregnant or thinking about becoming pregnant, let your healthcare provider know immediately. You should not take Avodart if you are or may become pregnant.
