Cardura XL and Breastfeeding
Because Cardura XL (doxazosin XL) is only approved for use in men, there is no reason a woman should use this medication while breastfeeding. Cardura XL has not been studied in women who are nursing, so it is not known if this drug passes through breast milk or if it would cause problems in a breastfed infant.

At this time, it is not known if Cardura® XL (doxazosin XL) passes through human breast milk. Therefore, if you are breastfeeding a child, talk with your healthcare provider about taking Cardura XL. It should be noted that this medication is approved for the treatment of an enlarged prostate and is not approved for any use in women.
Doxazosin (the active ingredient in Cardura XL) is known to pass through breast milk in rats. No research has been done to see if it passes through human breast milk or what problems it might cause in a breastfed infant. If your healthcare provider recommends that you take Cardura XL while breastfeeding, make sure to watch for any side effects in your child.
You should discuss breastfeeding and Cardura XL use with your healthcare provider. Each woman's situation is different, and you and your healthcare provider understand your situation best. After considering what you want and expect, as well as your current health situation, the two of you can make a shared decision that is right for you.
