Generic Cardura

Generic Cardura comes in tablet form and is available in several strengths, from 1 mg to 8 mg. The FDA has assigned the drug an "AB" rating, which means that the generic version should be equivalent to the brand-name medication. Teva Pharmaceuticals, Mylan Laboratories, and Ivax Pharmaceuticals are just a few of the companies that currently manufacture generic Cardura.

 

Generic Cardura: An Overview

Cardura® (doxazosin mesylate) is a prescription medication that has been licensed to treat symptoms of an enlarged prostate and for controlling high blood pressure.
 
Cardura was first manufactured by Pfizer, Inc. However, it has since come off-patent, which means that several companies now produce a generic Cardura drug.
 

Strengths of Generic Cardura

Generic Cardura is available in the following strengths:
 
  • Doxazosin 1 mg tablets
  • Doxazosin 2 mg tablets
  • Doxazosin 4 mg tablets
  • Doxazosin 8 mg tablets.
     

Who Makes Generic Cardura?

Generic Cardura is made by more than 10 different companies, including Teva Pharmaceuticals, Mylan Laboratories, and Ivax Pharmaceuticals.
 

Is Generic Doxazosin as Good as Cardura?

All generic medications must have certain tests to compare them to brand-name medications. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) then looks at these tests to decide if the generic medications are equivalent to the brand-name medications and assigns each generic medication a rating. An "AB" rating means that the FDA has determined that a generic medication is equivalent to a brand-name one. All of the generic Cardura versions that are currently available have an "AB" rating, meaning they should be equivalent to Cardura.
 
However, generic medications are allowed to have different inactive ingredients from the brand-name medication. This might include fillers, dyes, or other ingredients that may cause problems for people with allergies or sensitivities to such things.
