Flomax Drug Interactions

Flomax drug interactions with other medications, such as other alpha blockers, warfarin, or cimetidine, may lead to problems. Some of these drug interactions could cause your blood pressure to become dangerously low or could increase your risk of side effects. You may need to be monitored more closely when first starting Flomax if you are taking any of these medications at the same time, or your healthcare provider may change your medications altogether.

An Overview of Flomax Drug Interactions

Flomax® (tamsulosin hydrochloride) can potentially interact with many drugs. Some of the drugs that may lead to Flomax interactions include:

  • Other alpha blockers similar to Flomax, including:

  • Certain antibiotics or antifungals, including:

    • Clarithromycin (Biaxin®)
    • Erythromycin (Ery-Tab®)
    • Isoniazid (Nydrazid®)
    • Itraconazole (Sporanox®)
    • Ketoconazole (Nizoral®)
    • Miconazole
    • Telithromycin (Ketek®)

Other medications that are very similar to Flomax can interact with medications for erectile dysfunction (also known as ED or impotence), including Cialis® (tadalafil), Levitra® (vardenafil), and Viagra® (sildenafil citrate). Although Flomax does not seem to interact with these medications, caution should be taken when combining these medications (see Combining Levitra with Flomax for more information).
