Clinical Effects of Jalyn
Although no clinical studies have been done on Jalyn alone, one clinical trial has been done on using the two components of Jalyn together. This study consisted of men who had an
enlarged prostate, were at least 50 years old, and had moderate-to-severe
BPH symptoms. During the trial period, they were given one of the following:
The men in this study were asked to rate the following symptoms of BPH:
- Incomplete bladder emptying
- Frequent urination
- Intermittent stops and starts in the urine flow
- Urgency or difficulty postponing urination
- Having a weak urine stream
- Having to strain or push to begin urination
- Getting up in the middle of the night to urinate.
While all of the men had improvements in their BPH symptoms, the men who took the combination of dutasteride and tamsulosin (Jalyn) had more significant improvements than the men who took just one of the individual components of Jalyn. The difference between the medications was not seen until nine months after the study started, but then lasted throughout the study period (two years).
Some general considerations for when and how to take Jalyn include the following:
- This medication comes in capsule form. It is usually taken by mouth once a day.
- Jalyn should be taken with food, about 30 minutes after the same meal each day. Taking it at the same time each day helps maintain an even level of the drug in your body.
- Do not open, crush, or chew the capsules; make sure to swallow them whole.
- For the medication to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed.
