A common disorder, prostatitis (inflammation or infection of the prostate gland) affects up to half of all men at least once in their lifetime. Symptoms include:

 

There are four main types of this condition, some of which resolve with antibiotics. A digital rectal test and a urine test can determine which of the four types of prostatitis you have. It should be noted that having prostatitis does not increase your risk of developing any other prostate disease, such as cancer.
