Prostatitis, a type of inflammation or infection of the prostate gland, affects at least half of all men at least once in their lives. There are four different types, including acute bacterial prostatitis, chronic bacterial prostatitis, chronic prostatitis, and asymptomatic inflammatory prostatitis. The bacterial forms of the condition may be treated with antibiotics, while the other forms require different treatment options. Possible symptoms of prostatitis include burning or painful urination.
